They were two children from the same parent. One ended with a bad fortune, another a good one.
Destiny you might say but in reality, the difference was in who they married! Their lives went in the direction of their marriage alliances.
Esau’s marriage brought untold grief to his extended family and an irredeemable personal loss to his life (he lost the blessings of his father).
In Gen.28:1,2 and by his parents’ insistence, Jacob’s own marriage to those of his parents’ godly heritage earned him a lineage of the ever-conquering Jewish people who till today have remained unconquerable to even their worst foes.
It’s all in the Marriage covenant!
Marriage must be driven by something more than a good feeling or a hormonal rush. It takes more than just a ‘butterfly in the stomach’!
Though it needs true love to survive, marriage doesn’t start with love.
It starts with the alliance and compatibility of values and vision. The light must marry from light! Then love grows automatically.
Sexual intercourse outside the precinct of God’s laid down order has produced such social problems as prostitution, abortion, rape, homosexual practices, and bestiality (in extreme cases) that humanity battles today.
For its lure and a false promise of pleasure, Sex has become Achille’s heel of the city and thus the biggest trap of Satan yet.
Unfortunately, after the instinctive and mindless act, the sobered individual suddenly realizes that nothing satisfies. Only Jesus really satisfies!
As surely as God did in the days of Noah, so it shall also be in our day. God will not overlook the sin of sexual disorder. He will judge it!
Believers in Christ must not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.
Christ-followers must insist that their children marry those with like values of the faith lest they have grief as a sentinel at their door.
A great marital future awaits all those who elevate godliness above good feelings!
LET US PRAY:
Dear Heavenly Father, I commit the unmarried sons and daughters to your hand.
I pray you will provide for and connect our sons to women of virtue and wisdom.
You will provide for and connect our daughters to men of integrity, full of the fear of God and lovers of God.
I take authority over and subdue every spirit of seduction and sexual perversion in this city.
I break the hold of sin, most especially sexual sin over my life and my community, church, and nation. The light of God has risen upon me. The glory of God overshadows me.
May the true knowledge of God fill the earth as the waters cover the sea.
In Jesus’ Name, I Pray, Amen.
