The Fear of Isaac (3)
Treasuring God Above All: The “Fear of Isaac”
Day 3 – The Well: Provision Flows From Reverence
Friday, September 19, 2025
“…and there Isaac’s servants dug a well.”
– Genesis 26:25c
After worship (the altar) and lifestyle (the tent) came the well—a divine order that reflects a profound spiritual truth. Isaac understood that true provision flows from the presence of God, not from human striving or strategy.
The well represents sustenance, supply, opportunity, and prosperity. Yet notice the order—Isaac did not start with the well. He didn’t seek provision first and worship later. Instead, he trusted that as he built his altar and aligned his life with God’s presence, the well would follow.
This principle reveals God’s intended order for blessing: altar → tent → well. Jesus confirmed this sequence when He said: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Provision Must Follow Presence
The fear of God (the same reverence Isaac walked in) protects us from a subtle idolatry—making provision our primary pursuit. In today’s success-driven culture, it is tempting to dig the well first, focusing on business, income, and security while neglecting prayer and worship.
When provision becomes our goal, we unknowingly shift our trust from God as our Source to God as merely a Supplier. But Isaac’s example teaches that provision is the fruit of worship, not a replacement for it.
When Wells Run Dry
Seasons of lack test what we truly depend on. Do we panic and strive, or continue to prioritize God’s presence, trusting His faithfulness? Isaac reminds us that when priorities are aligned, God takes responsibility for your provision.
Even when earthly wells dry up, God remains our unfailing source.
🗣️ Daily Confession
“Lord, I trust You as my true well of supply. My provision flows from Your gracious hand, not from my striving. Help me keep You as my Source, not merely my Supplier.”

In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
