A House of Cards
Don’t Build A House of Cards
But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”
– Matthew 7:26-27 | MSG
“But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”
– James 1:25 | NKJV
There are two sides to a coin; it is either heads or tails. There are no grey areas or lacunas with God and life. You are either for the truth or against it.
It also follows that you are either building to last or building to fail, a house of stone or a house of cards.
Jesus Christ, the greatest storyteller, shared a deep insight with us in one of His many stories. If you attended Sunday school, you’ll be familiar with this parable.
Let’s read Matthew 7 verses24 to 27 in the message translation;
“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on.
If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.
“But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”
Storms will come, and challenges will certainly arise, but how you build will determine the outcome.
The human strategy is sinking sand, it will inevitably fall like a house of cards. However, the Holy Spirit strategy is the foundation for building to last.
When you build your life with human reasoning, logic, knowledge, what is trending, what friends and family are saying, research and projections of men, religious mentality, or fear of the future, it is tantamount to building a house of cards… the foundations will not stand the test of times and seasons.
Make up your mind to always build with the leadings and instructions of God. Build on the solid rock of divine encounters and truth anchored on prophetic scriptures. Build with prayers and in covenant partnership with God.
Always get God first. Then, no matter what comes your way, your purpose will shine forth and your increase will be guaranteed. It’s your season of greater things.
Let Us Pray
In Jesus’ Name, I declare I am not a forgetful hearer, I am not a playful hearer, I am a doer. I build my life with the building blocks of God’s word.
Dear Holy Spirit, help me to pattern my life according to the will and purpose of God for my life.
Lord, I refuse to give ownership of my life anymore to the control of sin and satan. From today, I declare I am no longer ruled by things of the flesh: No Lust of the eyes, No more Lust of the flesh, No more Pride of life. Henceforth, I yield my heart fully to God for the outworking of the Holy Spirit.
My old life of sin is now buried with Christ. Now I live as a witness of the Cross of Christ. Today, I receive God’s deliverance against every power of hell and satan. I confess that my spirit, my soul, and my body shall worship God in spirit and truth. Lord, by Your Spirit, I receive the heart of a true worshipper.
In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray.
Amen.
