Heart of Flesh
A Heart of Flesh
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”
– Ezekiel 36:26 | NIV
A heart of stone represents a hardened, stubborn, and unresponsive heart, one that resists God, refuses to obey Him, and lacks Compassion.
A heart of flesh symbolizes a soft, teachable, and responsive heart, one that is willing to follow His ways and sensitive to God’s Voice. It represents spiritual renewal and transformation.
In today’s world of wokeness, strong opinions, and loud voices, it may seem like being one with a heart of flesh is a weakness. However, a heart of flesh represents the counterculture’s narrow path, distinct from the broad way of today’s world’s woke culture.
To the unbeliever: You won’t truly treasure Jesus as your Savior until you’ve seen the depth of your own sin. His blood won’t be precious to you until you’re broken over the guilt it had to cover. He becomes everything when we realize we are nothing without Him. So come to Him, trust Him, and don’t harden your heart.
To the believer: Stay tender before God. Be cautious of anything that dulls your spirit, makes you indifferent to others, or casual with sin. Real holiness begins with humility. The one who thinks they’ve “arrived” has likely missed the first step—brokenness. Stay low. Repent often. Cling to the cross.
Let us never slip into a routine, lifeless religion that lacks real power. We can sing without true joy or praise. We can pray without passion or sincerity. We can read the Bible without truly feeding on its truths. We can know the doctrines of the gospel and yet feel no real change in our hearts. Pray against this—yes, pray against all forms of lifeless, impactless, untransformative faith.
Let your soul be fully alive, deeply sensitive to God, like skin that has been stripped of its hardness, feeling every truth, every promise, every word from God with sharp, immediate clarity. Strive for this kind of spiritual vitality.
Remember how tender-hearted Jesus was. There was nothing hard or unfeeling in Him. May you become just as tender, shaped into His image by the eternal Spirit of God. Fear becoming calloused toward sin. Fear growing cold toward Christ. Fear becoming indifferent toward other humans.
You can go through the motions—sing, pray, read—but without life and power. Ask God to keep your heart soft. Let His Word stir you deeply. Strive to be as tender-hearted as Jesus, who felt every sorrow and loved without limits.
Pray this promise often:
“Lord, take away my heart of stone, and give me a heart of flesh.”
May He make us alive, humble, and full of His Spirit. Amen.
Let Us Pray
Lord, write your laws upon my lips. And make my mouth the pen of a skillful writer. Grant me the strength to serve the “nations” [people-groups] to whom you have sent me. Father, by Your Spirit I do #GreaterThings in the pattern of Jesus. Lord, may Your Name be praised through all I do.
Father, I thank you for granting me access to all that Heaven has to offer. Thank you for the Power of Your Presence. Thank you for the spirit of Sonship that we have received, whereby we cry “Abba, Father”. I am walking in obedience to every instruction of the LORD my GOD
Lord, I submit my heart to be regulated by the Word of the LORD. We declare that we are a Wise and Understanding Kingdom Community. I manifest the Wisdom of God as I live among the unbelieving.
In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen
